BIO
Maarten Ghesquière is a Belgian artist currently studying Industrial Engineering at KU Leuven. Alongside his academic pursuits, he passionately dedicates himself to painting — a discipline through which he explores the tension between beauty and discomfort.
As a young and ambitious artist, Maarten draws inspiration from painters such as Justin Mortimer and Phil Hale, whose works challenge conventional aesthetics. He is particularly fascinated by imagery that evokes unease — compositions that are at once unsettling, melancholic, and hauntingly beautiful.
Through his art, Maarten seeks to capture that fragile space where darkness and elegance coexist, inviting viewers to find meaning and beauty in what is often overlooked or considered disturbing.
